Mandatory International Health Insurance 2024-2025
美姬社区 offers a group health insurance to eligible F-1 students. International students pay for group health insurance DIRECTLY to GeoBlue Health Insurance through their website at the beginning of fall and spring semesters.
Fee
- If you previously purchased insurance through 美姬社区 group health insurance, your coverage plan will end as of January 31, 2025.
- Health insurance fee for continuing students is $918.30 for coverage period from February 1, 2025 to July 31, 2025. The fee for new students is $91,071.35 for 7 months from January 1, 2025 to July 31, 2025.
Deadline
Deadline to purchase health insurance for both new and continuing students is January 17 by 12pm. Please note that your SURF account will have a non-payment hold until payment or health insurance waiver form with proof of alternative insurance is received.

How to use alternative health insurance
If you have your own policy from another company, your plan needs to meet the minimum requirements and must be approved by 美姬社区.
Minimum requirements
- Sickness or accident benefit must be minimum $300,000 per occurrence
- No lifetime maximum amount on the following health benefits (Hospitalization, Maternity and Mental/Behavioral health with patient care)
- Minimum of $25,000 in repatriation benefits
- Minimum of $50,000 in medical evacuation benefits

To request approval for an alternate health insurance plan, please download and complete the . Please send the completed waiver form with a proof of alternative health insurance with detailed coverage information in English to iip@miracosta.edu.

- Do I have to pay?
Yes. Health insurance enrollment is required for all F-1 visa students in the U.S. to attend 美姬社区. - What if I don't have a Visa/Mastercard?
Please contact the International Office at iip@miracosta.edu. - What is the deadline to pay for health insurance?
All students will need to submit proof of insurance by Friday, August 18 by noon. - What if I don't pay by the deadline?
A hold will be placed on your SURF account until your provide proof of insurance to the International Office. Once the insurance fee payment or waiver documents are received, the International Office will remove your SURF hold. - What is covered under the new health insurance plan?

Safety and Security Tips
The most common legal problem for international students is breaking drinking laws, such as driving after drinking alcohol, drinking alcohol under the legal age of 21 or giving alcohol to people under the age of 21.
- California's Legalized marijuana laws do not apply to F-1 students who are subject to federal laws.
- International students can violate visa rules for holding, shipping, receiving firearms and ammunition including at a firing range.
- NEVER give personal information about yourself over the phone or to someone you don鈥檛 know (phone number, address, bank account information, credit card number).
- If anyone asks you for money, say, 鈥淣o. I can鈥檛.鈥
- When you are traveling to new places, listen to local students, staff, and most importantly, your intuition!
- Be firm and direct in declining invitations from people you don鈥檛 know. Firmly say 鈥淣o鈥, avoid being alone, and say, 鈥淚 will call the police鈥 to stop unwanted attention.
